Siyabonga Lusiba Takes St Benedict’s Hockey Role

Former Queen’s College Director of Hockey Siyabonga Lusiba has taken up a new leadership role at St Benedict’s College in Johannesburg.

Lusiba served for six years at Queen’s College Boys’ High School in Komani, where he oversaw the school’s hockey programme and worked closely with the first-team structures. During his tenure, Queen’s consistently produced provincial-level players and maintained a competitive presence within Eastern Cape school hockey.

Before his appointment in Komani, Lusiba was part of the hockey setup at St Andrew’s College, further building his experience within established South African school hockey programmes.

New Chapter in Gauteng

St Benedict’s College, based in Bedfordview on Johannesburg’s East Rand, is recognised for its strong academic and sporting traditions. Lusiba now assumes responsibility for leading the school’s first-team hockey programme as preparations continue for the upcoming season.

His first league fixture in charge is scheduled for 9 March against Marais Viljoen. The team will also face Jeppe High School for Boys shortly thereafter in a key Johannesburg schools encounter.

Komani Connection

Lusiba’s move marks a significant step in his coaching career and reflects the continued progression of coaches who have contributed to sport in Komani. His six-year tenure at Queen’s College forms part of the town’s recent hockey development history.

While he begins this next phase in Johannesburg, his professional journey includes an important chapter in Komani’s school sport landscape.
