Driver killed after vehicle veers off R61 near Komani
A man has died following a single-vehicle crash on the R61, about 10km outside Komani in the direction of Tarkastad, on Saturday afternoon, 11 April 2026.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene at approximately 17:40 after reports that a vehicle had lost control and left the roadway. According to incident information, the car veered off the road and went off the road.
On arrival, paramedics found one male occupant who had sustained fatal injuries. He was declared dead at the scene.
The vehicle involved was a white Renault Triber. No other occupants were reported.
Several emergency and support teams responded to the incident, including EMS, traffic officials, SAPS, Forensic Pathology Services, and a breakdown service.
The exact cause of the crash has not yet been confirmed. It remains unclear what led to the driver losing control of the vehicle.
Police are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
