DA hosts Freedom Day fun run, hands over sports gear to local clubs
Komani – The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Enoch Mgijima constituency marked Freedom Day with a community-focused event that brought together young people, local clubs, and residents through sport and outdoor activity.
Information provided by the Democratic Alliance Enoch Mgijima Constituency indicates that the day featured a fun run that drew enthusiastic participation from community members. Organisers described the atmosphere as energetic, with runners taking part in a show of unity and healthy living.
Prizes were awarded to the top three finishers in the race, recognising their performance and encouraging continued participation in athletics within the municipality.
Beyond the run itself, the event also included the donation of sporting equipment to local teams. Rugby balls and soccer balls were handed over to clubs in the area, with the aim of supporting grassroots sport and development.
The DA said rugby, soccer, and athletics play an important role in the community, particularly among young people. The party expressed hope that local clubs would benefit from the equipment as they prepare for their upcoming seasons.
The constituency also highlighted the significance of engaging with young people on Freedom Day, describing them as “future leaders”, and called for a renewed focus on ethical leadership and community-driven governance.
The event forms part of the party’s broader community engagement efforts and its stated intention to strengthen its role within the municipality.
