DA announces four more Eastern Cape mayoral candidates.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has announced four additional mayoral candidates in the Eastern Cape, bringing the party’s total number of announced candidates in the province to 10.
DA Eastern Cape provincial leader Andrew Whitfield announced the candidates on Thursday, 1 October 2026.
Alderman Karen Smith has been named as the candidate for Sundays River Valley Municipality, while Councillor Matthee Nel will contest Walter Sisulu Municipality.
Councillor Mbongeni Kotana has been announced for Port St Johns Municipality, while Star Mvuyane will be the party’s candidate for Ingquza Hill Municipality.
They join six candidates previously announced by the DA for Nelson Mandela Bay, Kouga, Inxuba Yethemba, Dr Beyers Naudé, Blue Crane Route and Makana municipalities.
According to Whitfield, the party’s campaign will focus on issues including service delivery, corruption, crime and strengthening local economies to create jobs.
The latest announcement expands the DA’s slate of mayoral candidates across the Eastern Cape ahead of the municipal elections.
