Dr AB Xuma Mayor to Visit Family After Ngcobo Killing
The Dr AB Xuma Local Municipality has welcomed the arrest of two suspects linked to the brutal killing of 75-year-old Ms Nokhansala Sidiki in Zadungeni A/A, Luthuthu Locality near Ngcobo, while indicating that more arrests could follow as investigations continue.
In a statement issued on 20 May 2026, the municipality described the incident as a deeply shocking tragedy and strongly condemned acts of violence linked to allegations of witchcraft.
Ms Sidiki was allegedly killed in an incident that has sent shockwaves through the local community. Authorities previously confirmed that the elderly woman was allegedly assaulted and killed following accusations of witchcraft.
The municipality said no individual or group has the right to take the law into their own hands under any circumstances.
“Acts of mob justice and violence have no place in our communities and stand in direct contradiction to the values of human dignity and the rule of law that underpin our constitutional democracy,” the statement read.
The municipality further expressed concern about elderly and vulnerable people being targeted through witchcraft accusations, saying such actions cannot be tolerated.
Dr AB Xuma Local Municipality Mayor, Councillor Siyabulela Zangqa, is expected to visit the Sidiki family at 14:00 on Wednesday to offer condolences and support following the tragedy.
The municipality also called on residents to continue cooperating with law enforcement authorities as investigations continue.
Police have indicated that additional arrests are expected as the investigation progresses.
The municipality extended condolences to the Sidiki family, relatives and the wider community affected by the killing.
