The Lootsberg Pass on the N9 between Graaff-Reinet and Middelburg remains closed to motorists due to snow, according to an update from the Eastern Cape Department of Transport on Monday morning, 10 August.
Motorists travelling from the Graaff-Reinet side are advised to use the alternative route along the R61 towards Nxuba before joining the N10 towards Middelburg.
Meanwhile, the Wapadsberg Pass on the R61 is open to traffic, although motorists have been urged to drive with caution due to current weather and road conditions.
The department also confirmed that the R61 between Graaff-Reinet and Cradock is currently drivable.
There is no snow on the road surface along this section, although the roadway is reportedly slightly wet.
Snow and cold weather have affected several high-lying routes across the Eastern Cape, and motorists are advised to remain cautious as conditions may change.
