Old age home access drama after botched repairs in Komani
Residents and stakeholders have raised concerns over the quality of repair work carried out at the entrance to the Madeira Old Age Home in Komani, following recent cable-related maintenance.
It is understood that cable repair work was undertaken at the entrance to the facility. However, according to complaints received, the area was allegedly not properly restored after the work was completed, making it difficult for smaller vehicles to safely enter and exit the premises.
Concerns were further raised that, although the issue was later attended to after complaints were lodged, the remedial work carried out was reportedly of a poor standard.
It is alleged that sand was used during the repair process, prompting questions about the durability and safety of the surface, particularly for elderly residents and service vehicles accessing the home.
The situation has sparked frustration among those affected, with questions being asked about the municipality’s response time and whether proper procedures were followed in restoring the entrance.
Komani News sent a detailed media enquiry to the spokesperson of Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality, seeking clarity on several key issues.
These included the nature of the cable repair work undertaken, reasons why the entrance was allegedly not properly restored initially, and why there was a reported delay in responding to complaints.
Further questions were also posed regarding whether the municipality is satisfied with the quality of the current repairs and whether any additional corrective work will be undertaken to ensure safe and proper access to the old age home.
At the time of publication, no response had been received from the municipality.
Komani News will continue to follow up on the matter and provide updates as soon as a response is made available.
