Safety Awareness Drive Urges Reporting of Domestic Violence in Komani

A safety awareness drive led by the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality, in partnership with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and other stakeholders, is aiming to strengthen community responsibility and improve reporting of domestic violence and related incidents across the Komani area.

The initiative, recently held in the municipality, focused on educating residents about the importance of recognising and reporting domestic violence, while encouraging greater cooperation between communities and law enforcement agencies.

Focus on reporting and community vigilance

During the engagement, residents were provided with information on how to identify signs of domestic abuse and other safety concerns. Officials emphasised that early reporting plays a critical role in preventing further harm and ensuring that victims receive the necessary support.

Community members were also encouraged to make use of available reporting channels through SAPS and other support structures, with the aim of improving response times and strengthening intervention efforts.
