Transnet Healthcare Train Arrives in Komani to Boost Local Services

Komani, Eastern Cape – The Transnet Phelophepha Healthcare Train is now in Komani, set to provide healthcare services to the local community for the next two weeks.

The team is currently resolving technical matters, with full operations scheduled to begin tomorrow morning. Services will be available midweek only, from 07:30 to 16:00.

The Phelophepha Train, meaning “good, clean health,” is a mobile healthcare clinic operated by the Transnet Foundation.

Since its first journey in 1994, the initiative has grown from a single three-carriage train to three 19-coach trains, visiting up to 70 rural communities annually and reaching over 15 million people to date.

Each train offers screenings for conditions such as cancer, diabetes, and hypertension, including pap smears for women and prostate checks for men.

It also provides emergency care with diagnostic tools like cardiac monitors and defibrillators, as well as medication, health education, and counselling services.

During its stay in Komani, residents will have access to these vital services, including prescriptions and educational programmes, without needing to travel to hospitals or clinics.

The initiative continues to bring healthcare, hope, and healing to underserved communities across South Africa.
