61-Year-Old Woman Shot Dead in Qoqodala Outside Komani

A 61-year-old woman has been shot and killed inside her home at Mnikina Location in Qoqodala, outside Komani, in a violent incident that unfolded in front of a young child.

The shooting happened on Saturday evening, 28 March 2026, at approximately 19:10.

According to South African Police Service spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, police have opened a murder case. No arrests have been made, and the motive remains unknown.


Shot while inside her home

Police say the woman was inside one of the houses at her homestead, reportedly preparing food, when two unknown men entered the house.

It is alleged that the suspects shot her four times before fleeing the scene.

A seven-year-old child was inside the house at the time of the shooting.

Family alerted moments after shooting

The child reportedly ran to inform the woman’s husband, who was in another house on the same property with a 14-year-old child.

When the husband arrived at the scene, the woman had already died.

Police and other role players were called to the scene shortly afterwards.


No arrests, motive still unclear

Authorities have confirmed that a murder case has been registered. At this stage, no arrests have been effected.
