Update: N6 Partially Reopened at Kei Road Outside Stutterheim After Truck Accident

One lane open under traffic control

The N6 at Kei Road outside Stutterheim has been partially reopened following an earlier accident involving a truck, with traffic now moving under strict control.

According to an update from the Eastern Cape Department of Transport, one lane is currently open, allowing vehicles to pass in a controlled stop-and-go system.

Traffic managed in both directions

Eastern Cape Department of Transport spokesperson Unathi Binqose confirmed that traffic officers are actively managing the flow by alternating vehicles from different directions.

Traffic is being released in groups, first allowing vehicles travelling from the southern direction, before closing briefly and reopening for traffic coming from the East London direction. This means the road is no longer completely closed, but motorists should expect intermittent stops.

Temporary full closure expected during vehicle recovery

Binqose also confirmed that a towing company is already on scene to retrieve the truck involved in the accident. Once recovery operations begin, the N6 will be temporarily closed completely for safety reasons.

The recovery process is expected to take between 30 minutes and an hour, after which the road will be fully reopened to traffic.

Traffic law enforcement officers remain on site to ensure safety and manage congestion. Motorists are urged to exercise patience, obey traffic instructions, and drive with caution through the area.
