Ten Days, No Power: Repairs Crawl Forward in Komani
Power Outage Update: Ten Days Without Power as Repairs Continue
Affected Streets Now on Day 10
Residents in Queens Drive, Grey Street, Prince Alfred Street, and Ebden Street have entered what is now approximately the tenth day without electricity, following a major underground cable failure affecting only this cluster of streets.
Cable Delivered After Delays
The replacement cable was delivered yesterday, arriving later than the initial delivery date that had been communicated earlier in the week. This new cable is essential for resolving the multiple faults identified along the 1.5km stretch of the old line.
Trenching and First Cable Section Being Installed
According to the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality (EMLM), trenching work is underway and the first portion of the new cable will be laid today. Installation is expected to continue through the weekend, with the municipality indicating that full work may run until Monday evening or Tuesday, depending on progress.
Work to Continue Throughout Weekend
Teams on site are preparing the route for the remaining sections of cable, and the municipality has stated that work will not pause over the weekend. Residents in the affected streets are advised to be cautious around open trenches and active machinery.
Request for Comment Sent to Municipality
Komani News reached out to Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality for comment on why the restoration process has taken this long, but no response had been received by the time of publication.
Municipal Apology
The municipality has again issued an apology for the inconvenience caused, adding that crews are continuing to work to restore power as soon as possible.
