Man arrested after suspected stolen truck intercepted on N6 near Komani
A 39-year-old man is expected to appear before the Komani Magistrate’s Court on 15 April 2026 following his arrest in connection with the alleged theft of a tipper truck reportedly taken from a construction site in Whittlesea.
According to a media statement issued by the Office of the Provincial Commissioner in the Eastern Cape, the suspect was arrested by members of the Komani Flying Squad after being found in possession of a vehicle believed to have been stolen.
Police said that during the late evening hours of 13 April 2026, Radio Control received information about a suspected stolen tipper truck travelling from Whittlesea towards Komani along the N6. The information was then relayed to operational members on duty in the area.
Members of the Komani Flying Squad were mobilised and began searching along the N6 route. A vehicle matching the description provided in the initial report was later spotted.
The vehicle was intercepted by police, and officers engaged with the driver at the scene. According to police, the driver was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for being in possession of the truck.
He was subsequently arrested on the spot for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle. The tipper truck was recovered during the operation, with police confirming that this took place around midnight.
The suspect remains in custody and is expected to make his first appearance before the Komani Magistrate’s Court on 15 April 2026, where he will face allegations relating to the theft of a motor vehicle.
The incident forms part of ongoing efforts by police to respond to reported vehicle thefts and related crimes in the district, particularly along major routes such as the N6, which connects several towns in the Chris Hani District.
Police have not released further details regarding the ownership of the vehicle or the construction site from which it was allegedly taken.
“Komani Flying Squad is lauded by the District Commissioner Major General Rudolph Adolph for the swift recovery of the Tipper Truck and the apprehension of the suspect in order to face the full might of the law,” the statement said.
