Excavation starts on Victoria Road, section temporarily closed
Komani – Work has officially started on the long-awaited Victoria Road upgrade, with excavation now underway as part of the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality’s infrastructure project.
The municipality confirmed that construction activity has begun on site, marking the first visible phase of the project previously announced to residents. The development follows earlier communication that the road would undergo a major upgrade to improve conditions and infrastructure.
Section near school temporarily closed
As part of the construction process, a section of Victoria Road near Luvuyo Lerumo High School has been temporarily closed to traffic.
Motorists and residents travelling through the area are advised to take note of the closure and plan alternative routes where necessary. The municipality has indicated that the closure is required to allow safe and uninterrupted excavation work.
Traffic measures in place
Temporary road signs have been installed in and around the affected area to manage traffic flow and reduce disruption.
These measures are aimed at guiding motorists safely through or around the construction zone while work continues.
Project moves from planning to implementation
The start of excavation signals a shift from planning to active implementation of the Victoria Road upgrade, which residents were previously informed about.
Komani News earlier reported on the planned closure and upgrade of the road, which forms part of ongoing efforts to address infrastructure challenges in the area.
At this stage, no further details have been provided regarding the full timeline of the project or expected completion date.
Residents are encouraged to remain cautious when travelling near the construction site and to adhere to all temporary signage in place.
Komani News will provide updates as more information becomes available.
