SASSA beneficiaries who receive children’s grants will be paid on Friday, 4 September 2026, under the agency’s confirmed social-grant payment calendar for the 2026/27 financial year.

The date applies to the Child Support Grant, Foster Child Grant and Care Dependency Grant. Payments are scheduled after the Older Persons Grant on Wednesday, 2 September, and the Disability Grant on Thursday, 3 September.

The full early-September payment schedule is:

  • Older Persons Grant: Wednesday, 2 September 2026
  • Disability Grant: Thursday, 3 September 2026
  • Children’s Grants: Friday, 4 September 2026

The Child Support Grant currently stands at R580 per child per month. It is paid to a qualifying primary caregiver, including a parent, grandparent or child over the age of 16 who heads a household.

The Department of Social Development has said that more than 13 million children receive the Child Support Grant each month, making it one of the country’s largest direct support programmes for households with children.

For September, the Foster Child Grant remains R1 290, while the Care Dependency Grant is R2 400. Care Dependency Grants support caregivers of children with severe disabilities who require permanent care or support.

SASSA’s payment dates are staggered over several days at the start of each month. The system is intended to manage the flow of beneficiaries at payment points and give grant recipients a clearer indication of when their money will be available.

Qualifying Child Support Grant caregivers must live in South Africa with the child, who must be under 18 and not be in a state institution. Applicants must also meet the required means test.

A single applicant may not earn more than R52 800 a year, while a married applicant and spouse may not have a combined annual income above R105 600.
