Police investigate after woman found dead in Machibini

Police have opened an inquest docket after the body of Nomalungelo Mganto was found in Machibini, near Komani, on Monday, 10 August 2026.

SAPS spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela confirmed the discovery to Komani News on Friday, saying the deceased had been identified as Mganto.

“Police can confirm that the body of the deceased, who was identified as Nomalungelo Mganto, was found at Machibini on Monday, 10/08/2026,” Mgolodela said.

She said an inquest docket has been opened and investigations are continuing.

No suspect has been arrested at this stage.

Mgolodela said the nature of any charges will only be determined after the post-mortem examination has been completed.

Community members had previously circulated claims regarding the circumstances surrounding Mganto’s death. However, SAPS has not confirmed those claims, and police investigations remain under way.
