Chris Hani road operation raises R32,400 fines
Women police officers in the Chris Hani District conducted coordinated road-safety and crime-prevention operations on key routes across the district on Friday, 14 August.
The “Basadi in Blue” operations were held at Nxuba on the N10, Komani on the N6, Khowa on the R56 and Bridge Camp on the R61.
According to an Eastern Cape SAPS media statement, the women officers were supported by the Traffic Department, the Women’s Network, Vehicle Crime Investigative Unit (VCIU), Men for Change and other partners.
Police said 2,593 people and 943 vehicles were searched during the operations. The VCIU checked 53 vehicles, while traffic fines totalling R32,400 were issued for various offences.
Motorists were also given awareness information on gender-based violence, human trafficking and substance abuse. A total of 339 pamphlets were distributed.
Chris Hani District Commissioner Major General Rudolph Adolph commended the officers, saying no accidents, fatalities or serious crimes were reported during the operations.
“Women in blue, I thank you for being considerate, for your unselfishness, readiness to be unsung heroes who are pillars of support in the organisation and for your willingness to give so much of yourselves more especially during this your women’s month,” he said.
