Robbers Shoot Man Dead For Trying To Rob Their Robbery!

MOGWASE – In a shocking display of criminal etiquette, a gang of cash-in-transit (CIT) robbers reportedly turned their guns on an “opportunistic” individual who dared to try and steal from their very own heist. The incident, described by witnesses as both terrifying and darkly comedic, unfolded on Friday afternoon, leaving one man dead and the North West police baffled by the brazenness.

The Heist Gets Crowded

The scene was set around 17:15 on Friday, 19 December 2025 on the R510 road between Rustenburg and Northam, near Dikweipi Village. A CIT van, travelling from Northam, reportedly encountered a burning vehicle – a classic diversion tactic – and decided to take a detour through the village.

That’s when the primary gang, heavily armed and seemingly well-organised, launched their attack. Shots were fired, injuring the driver of the security vehicle. One guard was disarmed of his 9mm pistol before the robbers used explosives to spectacularly blow open the van, scattering cash across the road.

“Hey, Get Your Own Heist!”

As the professional criminals, using a Toyota GD6 and a Toyota Fortuner, began frantically loading the liberated cash into their getaway vehicles, an unexpected and uninvited guest arrived. An unknown male, seeing the chaos and the flying money, apparently decided to help himself to the spoils.

But these robbers weren’t about sharing their hard-earned (or rather, hard-stolen) gains. Witnesses allege that one of the original robbers, furious at the intrusion, promptly shot the “freelance” looter dead. It seems when it comes to stealing, these guys have strict rules about who gets to do the robbing.

“I couldn’t believe it!” exclaimed a local resident who wished to remain anonymous. “They blew up the van, but then they get angry when someone else tries to pick up the money they just blew up! It’s like they’re saying, ‘This is our robbery!’”

Police Warn Against Double Jeopardy

Acting Provincial Commissioner of the North West, Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, has strongly condemned the incident, urging the public to refrain from approaching or tampering with crime scenes, especially those involving armed and trigger-happy criminals.

“Not only is it extremely dangerous, as evidenced by this tragic loss of life, but it also compromises ongoing investigations,” General Naidoo stated. “The public must understand that these are life-threatening situations, and they should immediately alert police and keep a safe distance.”

Investigations into the audacious robbery and subsequent murder are ongoing. No arrests have yet been made, but police are hunting for the suspects involved in both the CIT heist and the killing of the man who dared to rob the robbers.
