Power Outage Update: Queens Drive and Surrounding Areas Await Cable Replacement

Residents in parts of Queens Drive, Grey Street, Prince Alfred Street, and Ebden Street remain without electricity as the municipality works to fix a damaged cable.

Earlier today, technicians confirmed the cause of the outage: approximately 300 metres of paper-insulated cable has failed and will need complete replacement.

The Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality has begun the procurement process for a new XLPE cable. At this stage, no delivery date has been confirmed, leaving residents to continue their unplanned break from electricity.

Preparatory work, including excavation and site readiness, is already underway. Officials have assured the community that an update will be provided tomorrow.

While the situation is inconvenient, the municipality emphasises that replacing the cable is necessary to prevent further disruptions. In the meantime, residents are encouraged to report any additional issues while the process unfolds.
