Miss South Africa 2025 Receives Warm Welcome from Buffalo City Executive Mayor
Miss SA 2025 Honoured in Heartfelt BCMM Ceremony
Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality (BCMM) Executive Mayor, Cllr Princess Faku, officially welcomed Miss South Africa 2025, Qhawekazi Mazaleni, during a special ceremony held in East London today.
The event included a meaningful engagement with a group of autistic children, their parents, and relatives — a moment that aligned strongly with Mazaleni’s advocacy for disability inclusion and youth development.
Mayor Faku expressed deep pride in hosting Mazaleni, noting that her presence represented “excellence, youth empowerment, and purposeful leadership.”
Celebrating an Eastern Cape Trailblazer
During her address, Mayor Faku highlighted that BCMM and the broader Eastern Cape were honoured to have Mazaleni carrying the province’s name on the national and global stage.
She described Mazaleni as an outstanding ambassador whose success contributes to the legacy of greatness associated with the Eastern Cape — often referred to as “the home of legends.”
The Mayor encouraged her to continue raising the flag high, noting her appreciation for Mazaleni’s commitment to supporting children with disabilities and championing inclusive development.
A Strong Message of Inclusion and Support for Autistic Children
A significant portion of the programme was dedicated to children living with autism. Mayor Faku reinforced the municipality’s commitment to creating a compassionate and equitable environment for all children, especially those with disabilities.
She said children with autism possess unique talents and perspectives, but often face barriers such as limited access to specialised education and therapy, as well as social stigma.
BCMM, she added, is working closely with specialised schools, community organisations, and caregivers to improve support systems and ensure safe, enabling spaces for these children and their families.
Mazaleni’s Visit Amplifies BCMM’s Commitment to Community Empowerment
Mayor Faku said Mazaleni’s visit sends a strong message of inclusion, compassion, and leadership.
“As Buffalo City Metro, we are delighted to host you and to showcase our hospitality, cultural heritage, and vibrant spirit,” she said. The Mayor added that the visit marked a significant moment for the Metro as it celebrates Mazaleni’s achievements and the positive influence she continues to have across South Africa.
The Executive Mayor closed her address by wishing Miss South Africa a meaningful and inspiring stay in the Metro.
