Enoch Mgijima Municipality Confirms Unplanned Power Interruption
Residents in Westbourne, Amberdale, Horizon View, and Madeira Park have been left without electricity following an unplanned power interruption on Tuesday night. The Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality (EMLM) confirmed the outage, saying that standby technicians have been dispatched to investigate and restore power as soon as possible.
According to an official statement issued on Tuesday evening, the cause of the outage remains under investigation. “Power supply for these areas has been interrupted. Standby technicians have been despatched to attend to it. Updates will be issued later,” the municipality announced.
Technicians Patrol Line After Reported Explosion
Municipal electricians began patrolling power lines in the New Horizon area after reports surfaced of an explosion near surveillance cameras, which may be linked to the disruption. However, no visible fault has yet been located.
An EMLM representative confirmed that patrols would continue into Wednesday morning to identify the exact source of the fault and complete necessary repairs.
Residents Urged to Remain Patient
The municipality has urged affected residents to remain patient while teams continue fault-finding operations overnight. Given the complexity of the issue and the area affected, restoration times remain uncertain.
Power interruptions of this nature have become a growing frustration in Komani, with several suburbs recently experiencing outages due to cable theft, equipment failure, or infrastructure wear. However, officials have assured the public that all available resources are being deployed to restore service safely and promptly.
Local Impact and Safety Reminder
The outage has affected hundreds of homes and businesses across the northern suburbs of Komani. Residents are reminded to switch off sensitive appliances during restoration to prevent damage from potential power surges once supply resumes.
The municipality is expected to issue an update on the situation early Wednesday morning via its official communication channels.
