Dead body found at Mlungisi Stadium as police and forensics respond hours later

The body of an adult man was discovered at Mlungisi Stadium in Komani on Sunday afternoon, after community members attending a public meeting were alerted to his presence by local children.

According to information given to Komani News, the meeting had just started shortly after 14h00 when a group of young boys approached attendees and reported that a man was lying motionless on the stadium grounds.

The children alleged that the man had been at the same spot since the previous day.

After being alerted on Sunday, community members contacted SAPS. Police eventually arrived at the stadium approximately one hour and thirty minutes later. According to information provided to Komani News, forensic services only arrived roughly two hours after the initial report.

When police arrived, the man was declared dead at the scene.

At the time of publication, the identity of the deceased had not been released and the cause of death remained unknown. It is also unclear whether the man received any medical assistance prior to his death.

Komani News has requested comment from the South African Police Service regarding the circumstances surrounding the death but no information was given at time of publication.

The discovery occurred during a community meeting at Mlungisi Stadium, which had been convened to discuss ongoing service delivery concerns within the municipality. Despite the incident and rainy weather conditions, the meeting proceeded briefly before concluding.
