Breaking News: Midnight Drama on the R56 outside Molteno as Looters Target Beer Truck
IT WAS a Christmas miracle for a truckload of “Black Label,” but a sad day for thirsty looters on the R56!
Early this morning, at around 12:10 AM, the road between Komani and Molteno nearly turned into a free-for-all party zone. A massive truck carrying a full load of Black Label beer lost control and veered off the road about 12km outside of Molteno.
As the crates hit the dirt, the thirsty commuters began to circle. Passing motorists, smelling a free Christmas drink, wasted no time stopping their cars to help themselves to some free beer.
COPS TO THE RESCUE
But the party didn’t last long! Molteno SAPS proved they aren’t playing games this festive season. Officers arrived on the scene in full force and at lightning speed, shutting down the looting before the truck was picked clean.
Watchful Security was dispatched all the way from Komani to back them up. The security team jumped straight into action, directing traffic and ensuring that the scene didn’t turn into a secondary accident zone.
SWIFT RECOVERY
While the cops held the line, Noddy’s Towing arrived to finish the job. Calvin from Noddy’s was described as being “swift and on the ball,” maneuvering the wreckage with precision.
Authorities knew that as long as that truck was in the ditch, the looters would keep coming. Calvin and his team worked under pressure to get the vehicle out and moved to safety in record time.
“The quicker the vehicle was taken out, the quicker the looting could stop,” said one witness at the scene.
ROAD CLEAR FOR XMAS
Thanks to the joint effort:
-
The majority of the load was saved from the hands of looters.
-
All breakages were cleaned up to ensure no tires were sliced by glass.
-
The R56 was cleared shortly after, allowing holiday travelers to continue their journeys safely.
SAPS Molteno and the recovery teams have been hailed as heroes for saving the cargo and maintaining order during the busiest week of the year.
