South Africans still using SASSA Gold Cards have only days left to replace them as the 31 August 2026 deadline approaches.

Postbank has urged beneficiaries who have not yet switched to the new Postbank Black Card to do so as soon as possible, warning that the old Gold Cards are being phased out.

The deadline comes just days before SASSA begins paying September social grants, making the next week particularly important for beneficiaries who still rely on the old cards.

September 2026 SASSA payment dates

SASSA has confirmed the following payment dates for September:

  • Children’s Grants: Friday, 4 September 2026

SRD grant beneficiaries do not follow the same fixed payment dates and should check their individual payment status.

What happens to SASSA Gold Cards?

Postbank says beneficiaries who have not yet replaced their Gold Cards should complete the process before Monday, 31 August.

Those who fail to make the switch could experience problems accessing their grant payments once the Gold Cards are no longer operational.

With the deadline getting closer, beneficiaries have also been warned not to leave the replacement until the last moment as queues at replacement sites could increase.

Beneficiaries need to take a valid South African identity document or temporary ID when replacing their card.

Postbank has advised people with Gold Card or Black Card queries to visit a Postbank service point rather than going to a SASSA office.
