Police arrest suspect over land dispute threats and gunfire in Cofimvaba
A land dispute in Cofimvaba escalated into threats, property damage, and gunfire, leading to a swift police arrest.
According to police spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, the incident began when a suspect confronted the wife of a police official, demanding that the family relinquish a piece of land. During the confrontation, the suspect threatened to shoot both the woman and her child if they refused.
Door Smashed and Gunshots Fired
Following the initial threat, Captain Mgolodela stated that the suspect went to the residential neighbourhood of the police official. He proceeded to kick and damage a door, prompting the officer’s wife and child to flee the area for safety.
Gunshots were subsequently heard ringing out in the surrounding vicinity during the disturbance.
Suspect Arrested and in Custody
Police intervened and apprehended the suspect following the rampage.
Captain Mgolodela confirmed that a formal case has been opened, covering charges of intimidation and malicious injury to property. The suspect is currently being held in police custody as investigations continue.
