Three suspects to appear in Cofimvaba drug dealing case

COFIMVABA – Three suspects aged between 22 and 53 are expected to appear in the Cofimvaba Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 8 September 2026, following their arrests for alleged possession and dealing in dagga.

The arrests were made by Bridge Camp police on Sunday evening, 6 September, after officers received information about two homesteads allegedly involved in drug dealing at Mkhukhwini Locality in the Qamata Administrative Area.

At the first homestead, police reportedly found two suspects, aged 23 and 56, in possession of 82 dagga sachets, 13 dagga “bompies” and three parcels of loose dagga with a combined weight of approximately 3.2 kilograms.

The dagga is estimated to have a street value of more than R6,500.

Police also seized R4,150.94 in cash, which is believed to be proceeds from criminal activities, as well as packets of illicit cigarettes.

Both suspects were arrested and the items seized as exhibits.

At the second homestead, police allegedly found a 22-year-old foreign national in possession of 220 grams of dagga with an estimated street value of R1,300.

Packets of illicit cigarettes and R2,515 in cash were also seized.

According to police, the suspect was asked to produce documentation proving that he was legally in the country but allegedly failed to provide the required documents.

He is therefore facing an additional charge of illegal immigration, alongside the charges relating to possession and dealing in dagga.

All three suspects were released on warning on the same day and instructed to appear in the Cofimvaba Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

The Eastern Cape police said the Bridge Camp members involved in the operation have been commended for their efforts by District Commissioner Major General Rudolph Adolph.

Police investigations are continuing.
