Asive Mpushe, better known by his stage name Asive Da Prayer, is steadily carving out a name for himself in the South African music scene. Hailing from Whittlesea and Komani, Asive’s journey is a story of perseverance, resilience, and an unwavering passion for music.

Humble Beginnings in Soweto

Born and raised in Johannesburg’s Soweto, Asive’s musical journey began at the tender age of 11 in 2017, recording music on his phone while navigating the challenges of life in the streets. Despite a difficult background and constant criticism from naysayers, he refused to give up, investing his limited resources into studio sessions and honing his craft.

“Asive’s start in music wasn’t easy,” he shared. “There was a lot of hate and criticism, but I never gave up. I knew I had to work hard to pursue my dreams.”

Early Career: Street Cyphers and Studio Sessions

By 2018, Asive was performing in street cyphers and local shows, gradually gaining recognition as a young talent. That same year, he recorded in studios with friends, starting with PR Records before launching his own intertainment records. He also collaborated with Imali Studios, further solidifying his passion and skill.

Despite his growing interest in music, Asive faced obstacles that briefly paused his journey in 2019. He admits that distractions nearly pulled him into a dangerous path, but he emerged stronger, continuing to focus on his ambitions.

High School Performances and Rediscovery

Asive performed in grade 8 at Nompumelelo High School, showing early signs of his stage presence and charisma. However, it wasn’t until 2023 that he fully committed to building his music career, inspired by the support of his growing fanbase. That year, he recorded his first love song in a modest studio, which quickly gained attention across multiple provinces.

Collaborations with artists such as Zothiemind Imali Ka Raf and others from Mthatha, Mount Frere, and Cofimvaba helped him reclaim his identity as a serious musician, marking the beginning of a more prominent career trajectory.

2024–2025: Growth and Recognition

In December 2024, Asive performed at Komani’s Ngakwa Mutile, where he met fellow artist @Gxarha SA, who inspired him to push further. By 2025, Asive released his first EP, “GOD I Pray”, available across all major platforms, including YouTube, Spotify, Audiomack, Apple Music, Boomplay, and Shazam.

His career continued to soar with a march 2025 performance at Whittlesea Stadium, which drew a large audience. He also released singles featuring Emiky_RSA and other artists in Cape Town, and completed two radio interviews on Vukani FM, further expanding his reach.

A Message to Aspiring Artists

Asive’s journey underscores the reality of independent music in South Africa. Without a manager or large backing, he has demonstrated that passion, persistence, and self-belief can overcome even the toughest challenges.

“I want to inspire other artists,” he says. “It’s never easy, especially being independent, but if you work on it, love it, and live it, it can happen.”

Asive’s music is available on all major platforms, and he is currently preparing to release a new single on 11 November 2025.
