ANC Women’s League Calls for Thorough Probe into Allegations Against Chris Hani ANC Figure
The ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) in the Chris Hani Region has condemned allegations of gender-based violence linked to an incident in Ezibeleni and called for an urgent police investigation.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the organisation said it was deeply concerned by allegations circulating regarding the alleged kidnapping, assault and abuse of a woman in the township.
The ANCWL reiterated its opposition to all forms of violence against women and children, describing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) as a scourge that continues to threaten the safety, dignity and human rights of women across South Africa.
The organisation called on the South African Police Service to conduct a thorough, impartial and urgent investigation into the matter.
“If the allegations are substantiated, those responsible must face the full might of the law. Justice must prevail without fear, favour or prejudice,” the statement said.
The Women’s League said survivors of GBV deserve protection, support and access to psychosocial and legal services, while encouraging communities to speak out against abuse and support victims seeking justice.
It also warned against any attempts to use influence, status or personal connections to avoid accountability.
“No one is above the law, and the rights and safety of women must always take precedence,” the organisation said.
At the same time, the ANCWL stressed the importance of due process and the presumption of innocence, saying the matter should be fully investigated so that the truth can emerge and justice can be served.
The organisation further called on government, civil society organisations, traditional leaders, faith-based organisations and communities to strengthen efforts to combat Gender-Based Violence and create safer communities for women and children.
The statement was issued by ANCWL Chris Hani Regional Coordinator Nosipho Papiyana. :::
