Deteriorating Conditions at Two Hofmeyr Schools Raise Concerns.

HOFMEYR – The Hofmeyr Community Development Forum has raised concerns about the deteriorating condition of Phakama High School and Mzamomhle Primary School, which share the same premises.

According to the forum, the school buildings are in poor condition, with loose and detached corrugated roofing sheets, broken classroom windows and damaged gutters.

The forum also reported that toilets used by learners and teachers are not functioning due to a lack of water, while the ablution facilities themselves are in poor condition.

Both schools have reportedly suffered extensive vandalism and lack proper perimeter fencing. The shared schoolyard is described as dirty and poorly maintained, while neither school has adequate sporting facilities.

The reported conditions have raised concerns about the safety and wellbeing of learners and teachers.

The allegations were brought to the attention of Komani News by the Hofmeyr Community Development Forum.

Comment from the Eastern Cape Department of Education is being sought regarding the reported conditions and possible intervention measures.
