Undocumented Foreign Nationals Arrested in Gonubie Compliance Operation
Undocumented foreign nationals were arrested and expired food products confiscated during a joint compliance operation in Gonubie.
The operation was conducted by the Eastern Cape Missing Person & Trafficking Unit together with Gonubie SAPS, the Department of Home Affairs Immigration Services, Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality (BCMM) Law Enforcement and BCMM Environmental Health Services.
According to the Eastern Cape Missing Person & Trafficking Unit, the operation focused on compliance with relevant laws and regulations as well as addressing illegal activities in the area.
During inspections, undocumented foreign nationals were arrested and handed over for further processing by the relevant authorities.
Officials also seized prohibited products, while Environmental Health officials confiscated expired food products.
Various establishments in Gonubie were inspected to determine whether they were complying with applicable legislation.
The unit did not provide the number of people arrested, the number of establishments inspected or details of the products seized.
