Donation drive launched after Mlungisi flats fire displaces eight families

A donation drive has been launched to assist eight families left homeless after a fire destroyed flats in Mlungisi on Sunday.

As previously reported by Komani News, the blaze displaced several families, leaving many without clothing, household items and other essentials. A new community appeal is now focusing on helping affected children return to school as quickly as possible.

Community member Onwaba Lizalise Swaartbooi has called on residents to donate school uniforms, shoes, stationery and books for learners who lost their belongings in the fire.

The affected learners attend KwaKomani Technical High School, Hexagon High School, Luvuyo Lerumo High School, Lukhanji Primary School, Rubusana High School and Nkwanca High School. Several younger children and toddlers were also affected, with donations of clothing for them also being requested.

Organisers are asking people not to make cash donations. Instead, residents are encouraged to buy the required items and either deliver them directly or arrange for them to be collected.

“The biggest concern is getting the children back to school as soon as possible,” Swaartbooi said in the appeal.
