Municipality removes vehicles from illegal parking-area car washes
Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality’s Public Safety Department has removed vehicles found being washed illegally in public parking areas.
The municipality said washing vehicles in parking areas is prohibited and warned that the practice would not be tolerated. Motorists using these informal car-washing operations could have their vehicles removed or towed.
According to the municipality, the illegal operations are also contributing to litter found inside municipal drainage channels. Waste from the washing areas can enter the drainage system, creating blockages and adding to existing cleanliness problems around town.
The municipality has urged motorists to take their vehicles to registered car wash establishments. It said this would help motorists comply with municipal rules while supporting businesses operating legally.
The operation forms part of efforts by the municipality to enforce its regulations and keep public spaces and drainage channels clean.
The municipality did not indicate how many vehicles were removed, the exact locations targeted or whether any fines were issued during the operation.
