N2 reopens after protest closure near Sibangweni

The N2 between Mthatha and Qumbu, near Sibangweni on the Kokstad side, has reopened to traffic following earlier protest action that forced a closure.

According to the latest update, the road was closed this morning by community members, disrupting travel along the busy route linking the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.

Authorities confirmed that Public Order Police engaged with protesters, leading to an agreement that the road be reopened to allow motorists to pass through safely.

The route has now been declared safe for public use, although police visibility will remain high in the area as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of road users and prevent further disruptions.
