All Saints Hospital Clean-Up Campaign Held for Dr AB Xuma Month
A community clean-up campaign at All Saints Hospital formed part of the ongoing Dr AB Xuma Month activities organised by the Dr AB Xuma Local Municipality.
Municipal leadership, officials, community members and other stakeholders joined forces during the campaign to clean the hospital surroundings and promote a safer and healthier environment for patients, staff and visitors.
The initiative forms part of a broader programme of activities planned during March to honour the legacy of Dr Alfred Bathini Xuma, a historic South African leader remembered for his dedication to service, leadership and community upliftment.
Community members join hands
During the clean-up, participants worked together to clear litter and improve the hospital’s outdoor environment. Municipal officials described the campaign as a demonstration of community cooperation and shared responsibility.
The municipality said improving public spaces such as healthcare facilities is an important part of strengthening the well-being of communities.
Officials noted that the campaign reflects the values associated with Dr Xuma’s legacy, particularly the belief that leadership and citizens should work together to improve living conditions.
Promoting civic responsibility
Dr AB Xuma Local Municipality Mayor Cllr Siyabulela Zangqa addressed those taking part in the campaign and thanked residents and stakeholders for their participation.
He emphasised that commemorating Dr AB Xuma Month is also about encouraging residents to take responsibility for the environments they share.
According to the mayor, the clean-up campaign demonstrates how community partnerships can contribute to creating cleaner and healthier public spaces.
Municipal leaders say the campaign highlights the importance of active citizen participation in maintaining public facilities and supporting broader development efforts.
More activities planned
The clean-up at All Saints Hospital is one of several activities planned during Dr AB Xuma Month.
Municipal officials confirmed that the initiative will continue on Thursday with another clean-up campaign at Mjanyana Hospital, where teams will undertake similar work to improve the hospital surroundings.
Other activities during the month include infrastructure projects, oversight visits to development sites, awareness programmes and community events aimed at promoting civic responsibility.
Honouring a legacy through service
The municipality says the Dr AB Xuma Month programme is intended to encourage residents to participate in building cleaner, healthier and more dignified communities.
By combining service delivery initiatives with community-driven activities, the municipality hopes to keep Dr Xuma’s legacy alive through practical action.
Officials say the clean-up campaigns serve as a reminder that improving communities requires cooperation between government institutions and residents.
