Traffic alert for East London travellers as road closures planned near court

Motorists travelling to East London on 15 April 2026 are being urged to plan ahead and use caution following a traffic alert issued by Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality.

According to the municipality, several road closures will be in place ahead of an EFF march and a court appearance scheduled to take place at the KuGompo City Magistrates’ Court on 15 and 16 April 2026.

The municipality said buses will be parked and stationed at Jan Smuts Stadium, where a night vigil is expected to take place on the evening of 14 April 2026. Motorists were also advised about a march expected to move from Jan Smuts Stadium to the KuGompo City Magistrates’ Court.

The stated route is: Exit the stadium and turn left into Recreational Road, right into Commercial Road, left into Cambridge Street, cross Fleet Street, turn right into Commissioner Road, and end in front of the KuGompo City Magistrates’ Court.

Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality said the following road closures would take effect from 14 April 2026: Buffalo and Fleet
Church and Buffalo
Oxford and Commissioner

The municipality said officers would be deployed at various points to assist with the safe and free flow of traffic. People travelling from Komani and surrounding areas into East London are advised to expect delays in and around the affected parts of the city, especially near the march route and court precinct.

Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality has urged motorists to proceed with caution and make use of alternative routes where possible.

The notice serves as an important warning for anyone heading to East London for work, appointments, school transport, deliveries or other travel over the next two days, as traffic disruptions are expected around the affected roads.
