Municipality Confirms Cable Damage Behind Ebden Substation Power Outage

Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality has issued an official update confirming that construction activities at Nonesi Mall damaged an underground cable, leading to a cable fault at the Ebden Substation and subsequent power interruptions in parts of Komani.

According to the municipality, the incident resulted in electricity supply being interrupted in Top Town, Blue Rise, and some parts of the CBD. The update follows earlier reports of an explosion seen in the vicinity of the Ebden Substation, which coincided with widespread power outages.

The municipality confirmed that technical teams are already on site attending to the fault. As part of the response, affected areas are being isolated to allow electricity to be restored to unaffected sections while repair work continues.

The municipality did not provide a specific restoration timeframe but indicated that efforts are underway to resolve the fault as quickly as possible.
