FILL UP FAST! PETROL & DIESEL PRICES GO UP AT MIDNIGHT

South Africans have been warned to rush to the pumps tonight, because fuel prices are going up just after midnight — and the increases are nothing to smile about.

From 00:01 tonight, petrol, diesel, paraffin and LPG will all cost more, hitting motorists and households right as the festive season begins.

Petrol goes up by 29 cents a litre, diesel jumps by as much as 82 cents, and paraffin — used by thousands of families across the country — climbs by 99 cents. Even LPG gas is going up.

If you’re planning a road trip, a family visit, or even just trying to stretch your December budget, tonight is your last chance to save.

WHY THIS IS HAPPENING

Global oil prices have been climbing, and South Africa has to adjust its fuel prices every month based on what happens overseas. Even though the Rand strengthened slightly, it wasn’t enough to stop the blow.

So the result is simple: we pay more from midnight.

DIESEL USERS HIT THE HARDEST

While motorists will feel the pinch, diesel users are getting hammered the most. Diesel climbs between 65 and 82 cents, which will hit taxis, trucks, farmers and shops.

That usually means one thing for consumers: transport and food prices go up next.

PARAFFIN PAIN FOR HOUSEHOLDS

Paraffin, used by many communities for cooking and heating, goes up by nearly R1 a litre. This is a massive blow heading into the holiday season, especially for families already struggling with high grocery prices.

TONIGHT IS YOUR LAST CHANCE

Motorists are already lining up at filling stations around the country as word spreads about the increase. Long queues are expected this evening as South Africans try to squeeze in one last affordable tank before the new prices hit.

If you’ve been putting off filling your car, bakkie or generator — do it now.
