Water Supply Under Strain in Komani as Heatwave Drives High Demand
KOMANI – Residents of Komani continue to experience low water pressure in several areas, despite the resolution of an earlier technical fault at the Komani Water Treatment Works, authorities have confirmed.
According to an update issued on Monday, the power phase lock that affected the water treatment works following a planned power outage has now been resolved.
However, the local water supply system remains under strain due to exceptionally high water demand linked to the ongoing heatwave.
Municipal officials indicated that the unusually hot weather has significantly increased water usage across the town, resulting in a drop in reservoir levels.
As a consequence, many areas around Komani are experiencing reduced water pressure, particularly during daytime hours when demand peaks.
The situation has affected multiple parts of the town, with residents reporting intermittent or weak water flow.
While the water infrastructure is operational, the current demand exceeds normal consumption levels, placing pressure on the system.
Municipal teams are actively monitoring the situation and are working to stabilise water supply conditions.
Officials have indicated that efforts are underway to restore water flow to normal levels over the next few days, provided demand decreases and reservoir levels recover.
In the meantime, residents have been urged to use water sparingly to help alleviate pressure on the system.
Authorities emphasised that responsible water use during this period is critical to ensuring continued supply for all households.
The update was issued by the office of the Municipal Manager of the Chris Hani District Municipality, which oversees bulk water services in the area.
The municipality has apologised for the inconvenience caused to residents and has assured the community that restoring normal water supply remains a priority.
Residents requiring further information or wishing to report ongoing issues have been advised to contact the municipal call centre on 0800 100 100.
Komani has been experiencing extreme summer temperatures in recent days, with weather conditions contributing to increased household water consumption.
Residents are encouraged to remain mindful of water usage until the system fully stabilises.
