Two men arrested for alleged murder of woman in Ngquqha
Two men have been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of a 57-year-old woman in the OR Tambo District.
The incident took place at Chibini locality in the Ngquqha Administrative Area on 19 April 2026 at approximately 11:10.
According to the South African Police Service, the two suspects, aged 43 and 49, were taken into custody following preliminary investigations by Bityi detectives.
Police allege that the 43-year-old suspect, who is believed to have been the boyfriend of the deceased, and his 49-year-old associate were the last people seen with the victim. The trio had reportedly left a local tavern together shortly before the woman’s body was discovered.
The deceased was later found by community members near the same tavern.
Investigations indicate that the victim was allegedly assaulted using sticks. However, the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.
OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana, has welcomed the arrests and called on investigators to continue working towards a full understanding of what happened.
Police have confirmed that the motive for the murder remains unclear at this stage.
The suspects are expected to appear in court as investigations continue.
