Three killed in N6 pile-up near Birch Farm outside Komani

Three people have been killed and several others seriously injured in a multi-vehicle crash on the N6 near Birch Farm on Tuesday, while police also responded to the looting of a truck that had broken down nearby.

According to police spokesperson Captain Mgolodela, the truck had suffered a mechanical failure next to Birch Farm and was carrying a load of samp when members of the public allegedly looted its cargo.

“Police can attest to an alleged looting of a truck that had a mechanical failure next to Birch Farm on the N6. The truck was loaded with a cargo of samp,” she said.

Not far from the broken-down truck, emergency services are still processing the scene of a serious collision involving five vehicles.

The crash involved two buses, a truck, a Toyota Fortuner SUV and two sedans.

“So far, three fatalities have been confirmed with some passengers seriously injured,” said Mgolodela.

Police, emergency services and other role players remain at the scene as investigations continue. The cause of the crash has not yet been established.

Motorists travelling on the N6 are urged to expect delays and to approach the area with caution while emergency teams continue their work.
