Second Birch Farm crash sparks fresh looting reports on Tuesday evening
Another crash has been reported at Birch Farm on the N6 outside Komani, just hours after Tuesday morning’s fatal pile-up claimed three lives in the same area.
The latest incident occurred at approximately 7pm this sevening and reportedly involved a traffic vehicle and a truck transporting maize meal. While the circumstances surrounding the collision have not yet been officially confirmed, reports from the scene indicate that members of the public once again began looting the truck’s cargo.
Videos and eyewitness reports received by Komani News show people allegedly removing maize meal from the truck following the crash. The extent of any injuries or damage has not yet been confirmed by authorities.
The incident comes after a devastating five-vehicle pile-up at virtually the same location at around 9am on Tuesday. The earlier crash involved two buses, two trucks and a light motor vehicle, leaving three people dead and several others injured.
Earlier in the day, police also confirmed that a truck carrying maize meal which had broken down near Birch Farm was looted by members of the public after suffering a mechanical failure.
Tuesday’s second crash has raised further concerns about safety along the busy stretch of the N6, with two separate incidents occurring within hours of each other at the same location.
Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution when travelling through the area as emergency services continue to respond and traffic disruptions are expected.
