Six-month water leak leaves road wet every day
The manager of a truck stop at 7 Dickerson Road in Komani says a water leak that has reportedly been running for about six months has still not been fixed.
The manager said the leak continues to flow across the pavement and down the road “as we speak”, despite being reported about six times.
Chris Hani District Municipality spokesperson Soso Ngceke said no report had initially been recorded under the address and requested a reference number.
After Komani News sent a query, Ngceke said a municipal team inspected the site and found that the water appeared to be coming from a fire hydrant that had not been properly closed.
She said officials had attended to the matter and secured the hydrant.
However, the truck stop manager disputed that the issue had been resolved, saying the water was still leaking on Tuesday morning.
The manager also said staff had not been given a reference number when reporting the issue through the 0800 100 100 call centre.
Ngceke said residents should continue reporting water and sanitation faults through the municipality’s available channels, including the 24-hour call centre and ward councillors.
