Suspect arrested in Cofimvaba drug operation
A 33-year-old suspect was arrested after police seized drugs and cash during an operation in Cofimvaba on Thursday, August 6.
According to Eastern Cape police spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, members of the Chris Hani District Task Team were conducting operations in the area when they received information about alleged drug-dealing activities at a homestead in Pholi Location.
The team proceeded to the property at approximately 3.30pm and requested permission to conduct a search.
During the search, police allegedly discovered drugs valued at more than R2,700. Cash amounting to R970 was also seized.
The suspect was arrested and charged with possession of and dealing in drugs. The person is expected to appear before the Cofimvaba Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, August 11.
Chris Hani District Commissioner Major-General Rudolf Adolph welcomed the arrest and praised the task team for its determination and dedication.
He encouraged officers to continue intensifying their efforts to reduce crime throughout the district.
The allegations against the suspect have not yet been tested in court.
