Faulty pumps disrupt water supply to Komani
KOMANI – Residents in parts of Komani could experience low water pressure or complete water interruptions following a pump failure affecting the Xonxa water supply system.
Chris Hani District Municipality issued a public notice on Friday, 7 August, advising residents that faulty pumps at the Xonxa Raw Water Plant had interrupted the pumping of raw water towards Berry Dam in Komani.
The interruption is expected to particularly affect high-lying areas, where residents may experience reduced water pressure or periods without water as available supply comes under pressure.
Berry Dam forms an important part of Komani’s water supply system, receiving raw water before it is treated and distributed to consumers.
The Xonxa water supply system has become an important additional source for Komani, supplementing the town’s other water resources and helping strengthen supply to the area.
According to the district municipality, technical teams are attending to the faulty pumps.
No estimated time for the restoration of normal pumping was provided in the notice.
Residents are therefore advised to use available water sparingly while repairs are under way, particularly in areas already experiencing low pressure.
The latest disruption comes as reliable water supply remains an important issue for Komani residents, with interruptions in pumping, infrastructure failures and other technical problems capable of affecting reservoir levels and distribution to households.
The impact of the current pump failure will depend on how quickly the equipment can be repaired and normal pumping towards Berry Dam restored.
Residents in affected areas should prepare for possible interruptions and monitor further updates from Chris Hani District Municipality.
Komani News will update the report when further information on the repairs and restoration of the water supply becomes available.
