CHDM joins traditional leaders for Matanzima memorial lecture
Chris Hani District Municipality will partner with the Eastern Cape House of Traditional Leaders to host a memorial lecture in honour of Nkosi Ngangomhlaba Matanzima in Cofimvaba.
The memorial lecture is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, at the Nkosi Ngangomhlaba Homestead in Cofimvaba.
Chris Hani District Municipality announced its involvement in the event, saying it had joined hands with the Eastern Cape House of Traditional Leaders to host the lecture in honour of Matanzima, whom it described as one of its esteemed leaders.
The event forms part of efforts by the two institutions to commemorate Matanzima through a dedicated memorial lecture at his homestead.
The involvement of the Eastern Cape House of Traditional Leaders also places traditional leadership at the centre of the event, with the gathering taking place within the Cofimvaba area in the Chris Hani District.
Traditional leadership structures operate alongside government institutions in communities across the Eastern Cape, particularly in rural areas falling under traditional authorities.
The upcoming lecture will provide a platform for the participating institutions and those attending to commemorate Matanzima and reflect on his leadership.
Chris Hani District Municipality has not, in the information released so far, provided a detailed programme for the memorial lecture or announced the full list of speakers expected to participate.
The municipality also did not provide further details on the specific themes that will be addressed during the lecture.
The memorial lecture will be held at the Nkosi Ngangomhlaba Homestead in Cofimvaba on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.
Further information regarding the programme and proceedings is expected to be communicated by the organisers.
