Cyril Ramaphosa arrived at Qamata Great Place on Monday morning as part of a packed programme in the Chris Hani District that includes engagements with traditional leaders and the launch of the ANC’s regional volunteers programme.

Ramaphosa was accompanied by Oscar Mabuyane as he arrived at the royal residence, marking the start of a programme that is expected to draw ANC members and supporters from across the region.

Earlier, the ANC Chris Hani Region leadership arrived at Qamata Great Place to prepare for the day’s activities. The delegation was led by Regional Chairperson Lusanda Sizani and included regional leaders and organisers involved in the volunteers programme.

According to the ANC, the main event of the day will be the official launch of the Chris Hani Regional Volunteers Programme, an initiative aimed at strengthening community mobilisation and rebuilding structures at grassroots level.

The volunteers programme is expected to bring together party activists, branch members and supporters from communities across the district. The initiative forms part of the ANC’s broader efforts to increase its presence in communities and improve organisational work ahead of future political campaigns and community programmes.

Party leaders say volunteers will play an important role in strengthening links between communities and ANC structures while assisting with mobilisation activities and community engagement initiatives.

The visit also carries significance for the region as it brings the ANC President to one of the most important traditional centres in the Eastern Cape. Qamata Great Place has long played a role in the political and traditional history of the province and remains an important seat of traditional leadership in the area.
