Promoting Sportsmanship and Participation
According to organisers, the championships aim to promote sportsmanship, teamwork and healthy participation in sport among learners.
By bringing together athletes from different districts, the competition creates an environment where young people can test their abilities while learning the values of discipline, commitment and fair competition.
School athletics remains one of the most widely participated sports in South African schools and continues to serve as an important pathway for young athletes hoping to compete at higher levels.
Large Crowds Expected at Queen’s Rec
The championships are expected to draw large crowds of spectators throughout the event.
Educators, parents, coaches and athletics supporters from across the Eastern Cape have travelled to Komani to support the athletes and witness the competition.
Local organisers say the atmosphere at the Queen’s College Recreation Grounds is expected to be lively, with supporters cheering on learners as they compete in various events.
The gathering of athletes and supporters also highlights the importance of school sport in bringing communities together around positive youth development.
Komani in the Spotlight
Hosting the provincial championships places Komani firmly in the spotlight as a centre for school sport in the Eastern Cape.
Events such as this not only give young athletes the chance to compete at provincial level, but also highlight the town’s role in supporting school sport development and youth participation in athletics.
Local residents have been encouraged to attend and support the athletes as they compete in the championships.
