Narrow Escape for Ilinge Mother as Stray Bullet Hits Husband’s Car

Stray Bullet Shatters Ilinge Resident’s Vehicle Window During Domestic Dispute

ILINGE, Komani – A quiet evening for an Ilinge family was violently interrupted this week when a stray bullet struck a parked vehicle following a reported altercation in the neighborhood.

The incident unfolded while a local resident was breastfeeding her infant. She was startled by a “loud bang,” which she initially could not locate. Acting on instinct, she safely placed her baby down to investigate the source of the noise. Upon checking outside, she discovered that the rear window of her husband’s car had been shattered, with a visible bullet hole in the glass.

Rapid Security Response

The resident immediately contacted Watchful Security, who dispatched a rapid response team to the scene. Upon arrival, security officers conducted a preliminary investigation and interviewed several community members.

While the victim was unsure of the shot’s proximity, neighbours confirmed hearing a discharge but noted it sounded “in the distance.” This led investigators to believe the vehicle was not the intended target, but was rather struck by a stray projectile.

Tracing the Source

The Watchful Security team followed the suspected trajectory of the bullet toward a nearby area. According to witnesses on the ground:

  • An altercation had broken out between a man and a woman in the vicinity shortly before the bang.

  • Bystanders alleged that a firearm was discharged during this dispute.

  • While it has not been officially confirmed that this specific duo is responsible, the timing and location align with the damage caused to the vehicle.

Police Handover

The physical bullet was successfully recovered at the scene. This evidence, along with gathered witness statements and situational information, has been handed over to the Ilinge Police Station for further criminal investigation.

In a statement following the incident, Watchful Security extended their gratitude to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for their professionalism. “Watchful would like to thank the police for their swift and thorough response,” the company noted, highlighting the importance of the partnership between private security and local law enforcement in ensuring community safety.

No injuries were reported during the incident.
