MEC Siphokazi Lusithi to hand over 254 title deeds in Komani
Eastern Cape Human Settlements MEC Siphokazi Lusithi will hand over 254 title deeds to homeowners in Komani on Friday, 4 September 2026.
The handover, taking place within the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality under the Chris Hani District, is part of the department’s ongoing campaign to fast-track legal property ownership for recipients of government-subsidised houses. According to the department, giving residents legal proof of ownership is meant to restore dignity and unlock the real economic value of their homes.
The 254 beneficiaries are part of the Queenstown Nomzamo 599 housing project, which built homes for local families in need. The department said the recipients were cleared for official registration after a joint verification process with the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality to make sure the deeds go to the rightful owners and clear up past backlog issues.
The event will kick off at 10:00 in Mlungisi. Lusithi will first make home visits to hand over title deeds directly to selected elderly residents, followed by a broader community meeting and formal handover ceremony at the local community hall.
Provincial officials reported that the department registered 1,666 title deeds across the Eastern Cape during the 2025/2026 financial year, meeting its yearly target. The department plans to step up efforts further during the 2026/2027 financial year, targeting 2,237 new title deed registrations across the province.
