Gunmen Shoot at Cops, Then Flee Into Veld Outside Komani

KOMANI – Armed suspects opened fire on police during a tense incident on farms just outside Komani along the N6, before abandoning their vehicle and disappearing into the veld as officers launched a manhunt.

The incident took place on 29 December, triggering a heavy police response and causing alarm among nearby residents and road users.

Man Shot During Incident

Police confirmed that officers attended to a shooting in the area where a victim was found with a gunshot wound. The victim was rescued by police and taken to hospital for treatment. SAPS has confirmed that no fatality was reported.

While police were assisting the injured person, the suspects fired shots at officers, forcing police members to take cover at the scene.

Dramatic Chase on the Road

The suspects then fled in a vehicle, leading to a police chase in the direction of Tarkastad. During the pursuit, the suspects again fired shots at police, creating a dangerous situation on the road.

The chase ended when the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into nearby farmland and veld, where they managed to escape.

Vehicle Seized, Items Recovered

Police seized the vehicle used in the commission of the crime as part of the investigation. Several items were found inside the car, including a laptop, cellphones, clothing and shoes, which are now being examined by investigators.

At this stage, no arrests have been made, and police are continuing their search for the suspects.

Police remain on high alert and have intensified patrols in the area as the investigation continues. Members of the public are urged to report any suspicious activity that could assist police in tracing the suspects.
